Getting your blog to work for you is the goal every blogger strives for. In the beginning stages it can very time consuming and requires a lot of effort on your part but once you have settled in to your routine and know exactly what it takes to run your blog, it’s time to start taking the work load off your shoulders and learning how to place your blog on autopilot.
Blogs thrive on fresh content and the moment you stop updating your blog it loses its competitive edge very fast. You may not be able to produce fresh articles throughout the year because you are only human. You may get bored, suffer from writers block or just not seem to find enough hours in the day to get everything done. That is why I have written these seven tips to help place your blog on autopilot so that you can live that relaxed internet life you are trying to achieve.
1. Choose blogging software that allows scheduling of posts:
Some modern content management software allows you to set the date of a post to automatically publish in future. A good example of blogging software in this WordPress Editorial Calendar. You can write as many articles as you choose and schedule them to be automatically published on specified dates in future. Your esteemed readers will never know that you are on vacation because fresh content will continue to appear regularly.
2. Make use of plugins to place your blog on autopilot:
Plugins allow you to automate some blogging tasks easily saving you a lot of valuable time in the process. An example of such a task is social bookmarking. It’s very easy to use plugins to automate social bookmarking sites. There are many types of plugins in the market place today. You can choose to use free ones or use a little of your money to buy premium ones. For every blogging task there is a corresponding plug-in to work with. Search and you will find it.
3. Develop a profitable marketing routine:
You need to develop and stick to a marketing routine that is geared to paying you handsome dividends. The goal of any marketing plan is really to drive unique traffic to your site. Without unique visitors you can’t make money. There is software you can buy (or use free ones) to automate your blog marketing tasks. An example of blog traffic automation software is SEO Link Monster. After you have found traffic software to work with, you need to have a unique marketing routine that will eventually lead to success. You need to create a smart routine that doesn’t require more than a few hours per day of your time.
4. Allow automated guest posting:
There are several sites on the internet where you can find gifted article writers looking for blogs to publish their work. You need to join some of these sites so you may benefit from free high quality articles done by guest writers. Most of these articles can be published automatically on your blog if you are using WordPress as your blogging platform. Make use of guest writers to regularly update your blog with fresh content automatically. An example of a site where you can find guest writers is myblogguest.com.
5. Outsource time consuming tasks to place your blog on autopilot:
There are some major tasks that usually consume a lot of time to get them accomplished efficiently and profitably. These tasks include; article writing, link building, and directory submission. You can choose to outsource these tasks so you may find time to concentrate on the most important task – marketing your blog. I use iWriter for my article writing, SEO Link Monster for link building, and Article Marketing Robot for directory submission.
6. Syndicate your content:
You need to find yourself a site that will enable content syndication. An example of such a site is ping.fm. There are many pinging service providers you can choose to use other than the example given here.
7. Hire a talented copy writer:
You can choose to hire a professional copy writer who can take over your responsibilities of managing your content needs. He or she will write articles, and manage other writers for you. Let another person take charge of your content as long as they are qualified, experienced and competent.
To place a blog on autopilot takes time as you need to build up your blog to reasonable level first. Once you know what it takes to run a blog and keep it up to date then you can start outsourcing some of the time consuming tasks and you can then take on more of a supervision role over your blog. Ideally you want to be monitoring your blog making sure everything is running like clockwork. In the end this is your business, you are the boss and you want your blog to work for you.
Delegating or outsourcing the time consuming tasks allows you more time to focus on other areas of your site, like the monetization of your blog, interaction with readers and general appearance. I hope these seven tips on how to place your blog on autopilot will help you run your blog as effectively as you can without you having to do all the work.

Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. I’d prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.

I’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.

I never realised that it was possible for people to automate this. The editorial calendar seems nice. I need to get the hang of wordpress. At the moment I am using blogger.

I have always used WordPress for my blogs. Blogger is a quite a common platform as well, however I am not to familiar with it. WordPress offers some fantastic plugins to further customize your blog and offer you even more control. I would recommend wordpress to anyone wanting to operate a blog or website.

Hello Lloyd, I am currently using Blogger with custom domain. I have also used WordPress. There are some differences, but I think both are equally good. But most people say that wordpress is a whole lot better.

Thanks for the kind words. Great to see another entrepreneur taking to the internet. I did the exact same thing you are doing when I first started. I researched other blogs and websites, commented on them and used the methods that were working for them and implemented it on my blog. Anyone wanting to promote or improve their blog, should invest some time following this process. I wish you every bit of success!!

I am taking the Internet seriously now. I am retired and can dive into it. There are a lot of topics on the Internet and I am reading on many of those and commenting. I think that you have to put some attention on a blog to bring it above the dry and boring verbage that is common, and you have definitely accomplished that. I have started my own blog and website. In the text boxes I have entered my email address and my website URL. It seems to be customary to include these so I hope that its ok with you. TheVeryBest2You 13 9
